Will there be a new BMW M3 (E92) CSL?

Reports from German mag Autozeitung.de are beginning to outline the specs on a new model BMW M3 CSL which they speculate will have a wilder (470ps) version of the M3's 4 litre, and already pretty feral, V8 and, unsurprisingly, a lot less weight.

The story runs that it will have a similar carbon fibre intake as the previous iteration CSL (as you can see at the right of the airdam in the photoshopped image) and a double-clutch arrangement similar to VW's DSG and Porsche's PDK.

The bad news however...

...is that there have been rumors that the CSL mules have ceased testing and that the very existence of this expensive, specialised and potentially awesome car might be in very real danger.

From HCT on Pistonheads.com

"there won't be a production E92 CSL. They've stopped testing a few weeks ago. The only things in M3 shape running around the ring atm are testing mules of the 320si and actual M3s from tyre manufacturers and those for regular product development. The two CSL mules aren't at the ring anymore."

Here's hoping those rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated.
