Lost Circuits: Nurburgring Sudschleife

Little known, long lost and unloved.

The little known smaller brother of the feted Nurschleife still lies to some extent just south west of the GP circuit.

Looking back up the track towards the GP circuit

In places the track still remains as immaculate road, in others it is little more than a rutted path that can only be walked these days. There is precious little roadside furniture to remind you that this used to be a track.

Similar to the NS (and different to the GP track) it is a circuit that takes a great deal of its character from the local terrain. Steep gradients abound and the trees close in around you making it a dank and at certain times misty and eerie place.

The circuit ran both as a seperate entity and as part of an enourmous loop with the NS for over 50 years until it was demolished to make way for the GP and the outlying track was left as local roads (this at least preserves part of the track for posterity).

If you find yourself at the Nurburgring do be sure to have a look, if nothing else it is a great few miles of road, just follow K72 south to start (below).
